PostSubject: Auto problem    Thu Dec 08, 2016 9:07 pm

Hi

Worrying bought a dud here
I've discovered the coupes auto box makes a banging noise between 3rd and 4th that can be felt in the car under hard acceleration usually when cold.

When warm and driving sensibly its fine

Its on 125k and Hyundai say change the transmission oil and filter at 120 as its the colour of coke odds are its never been changed

In people's experience is changing the oil likely to fix it ? The oil is 11 per litre and it holds 6.9 plus filter want to keep the car if I can as really like driving it

Blimey! That's a fair bit of money.

I'd have thought not, but I've only ever had one automatic (Sierra DOHC) and I did nothing to it, so I've got no relevant experience.

5K doesn't seem a very large excess of mileage, though, which might suggest that the fluid's service age is not the only issue with it. Perhaps a fault is putting wear debris in the oil.

I can only make the fairly obvious suggestions of going on any special-to-marque forums, and/or taking it to a transmission specialist.

Might also be worth posting to a US-based forum which will have more experience with automatics. I'd suggest BITOG, which is quite active.

Post a picture of the oil on the dipstick/in a container, and perhaps drip some on paper (blotter test). They'll like that.

Been reading the US forums its supposed to be done every 30k the book is stamped up to 110 but no notes on what was done

One strange thing was going to buy the bits for 110 and do it but as its gearbox sump off out of interest rang local garage who quoted me 95 all in so costing less for someone else to do it.

I should just write it off and move on but broke the rules bought a car I like so if possible going to keep it

ok this is still ongoing took it to the garage and they did the oil found I was leaking fluid from the sump itself its was corroded so wonder how long that has been happening

this fluid itself was nice and red inside and they could see no burned gunk

except it still kicks on 3rd / 4th when you boot it realised its all this time as well not only when cold

its always if you boot it between about 30 mph kicks in a 40 have read some threads saying can me caused by TPS sensor as its a fiver going to give it a punt but not holing out much hope

if the overall condition of the car was not so good then would have given up but really like driving it
