Sorry this is going to make me would thick but not bought a car since the tax disk rules changed I know its done online and not transferred to new owner but


If I buy privately how do I tax before collection as the car is not in my name at this point

Really confused and dvla site was no help

You can tax a car at a Post Office if you have the green slip from the V5, an insurance certificate and an MoT Certificate. Other than that, if the car is already taxed get the seller to fill out the change of ownership part of the V5 for the day after you collect it. Also get the invoice made out for the same date. ANPR will then show the car as currently taxed when you drive it home.
