PostSubject: Tail pipe   Tue Jun 25, 2013 1:04 pm

The tail pipe fell off my car shortly after I bought it. Do I need to replace this for the MoT? It's a small section, about 7 inches long, that clamps onto the rear muffler. The exhaust is secure and wouldn't prevent the tester from getting an emissions reading. Just wondering if there is some requirement for the end of the exhaust to clear the back of the car.

If you have a bit of the pipe left then you could try a chrome tail fitting as said by tech

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep it in mind as a back-up option. Chrome is little 'bling' for my taste, so I'll see if I can get a regular steel section, maybe from a scrap yard.

Even though Chrome is a bit bling may be worth considering to get it through the test :Wky:

Mine is due a test soon so have been reading up on whats OK and whats not,its enough to confuse even the testers LRM

Attaboy. You might find a "general" scrapyard (as opposed to a car breaker) has a bigger range of more accessible tubing, or a fabricator might have some offcuts in the scrap bin.

Though its harder to cut, I've used stainless for this (usually for inserts to join 2 broken sections) in the past simply because that's what the local scrappy had, but mild steel will last longer than the rest of the exhaust anyway.
