Hiya, just thought that this might be of use to someone.

I've had a number of small Triumph saloons over the years and most of them have suffered with discoloured vinyl headlining (mostly nicotine or old factory glue).

The way to solve it (other than buying a new headlining):

Take off the sunvisors, interior light, etc. Pull off the door seal trims if you can. Clean the headlining with meths and leave to dry and air for a couple of days. Use a bit of white cotton material for this.

Use any cheapo white satin emulsion with the small fluffy rollers and give the headlining a good 2 or 3 light coats. A small brush will be good to tackle the awkward bits. Voila, a nice clean and cheap way of renovating your headlining.

I've used this method without fault for years and it does work. Plus if you have any paint spatter it will just wash off.

Cheers

Ken

Sounds good, and almost cheap enough for me to try it (Note to self: You dont care about cosmetics, remember?).

My headlining has spots of mildew, though, which might bleed through emulsion.

Watch the ventilation with that meths. Its pretty toxic.

You might want to try a weak bleach solution for the mildew first then degrease with the meths.
