Anybody any experiences/opinions on these.

Just been offered an N reg 1.6 for 250 MoT Sept tax end of month, owned by Volvo mechanic for last 3 years...just needs waterpump.

Not the height of fashion but I guess...bulletproof?

Yeah, cheap, but so is Primark, and no one likes being seen in there!

If a Volvo mechanic who owns it can't be bothered to fix the water pump, shouldn't alarm bells be ringing?

Kev.

I know the lad very well and he bought an S40 a couple of months ago as a replacement. The 440 has been off the road since and it wss only the other day when getting it prepped for sale that he noticed it needed doing, but doesn't want to spend any cash on it as it's obviously worth bugger all.

I've given it a thorough check over and don't mind doing the pump, especially as i've haggled him to 200 straight so far. Tempted...

Haggled it down to 100 got waterpump sorted and, *touch wood* its going OK.

Still got the Rover on my other policy also so using it as a 2nd runabout hack and it seems OK, although I am starting to notice the difference in my wallet with petrol compared to veggie!

Will get a pic shortly and put it up.

Wind up windows & no central locking took some getting used to as well, ain't had no central locking in a 5dr since I got rid of my old Seat Cordoba!

I bought a 440 glt 1996 and its a great car. cost me 600 its fast, reliable, comfortable, it has alloys and a spoiler and all the electrics work. I got fed up of newer cars getting scratched and dented as I park in the street and we live opposite a pub (its not uncommon to look out the window at 2am and see a gang of kids sat on it). I favoured a volvo as a few years ago I had an old 360GLT which I loved as it was so much fun to drive. I would definately buy another old 440 and the fact that they are seen as unfashionable means there are good cars out there for little money, surely thats what running a banger is all about!.

Had a 440 once, one of the worst bangers I ever bought, I'm sure though mine was just a very poor example!, Yours looks lovely, mine however was very rusty, so much so the front subframe snapped!!.. good job I wasn't doing any serious speed at the time. Always fancied the coupe version with the pop up lights, the 480 in that lovely metallic blue colour.
