Diesel with 111k get her tomorrow still at the garage getting a fresh mot its not fair I want go for a spin lol

No history 5 owners changed hands at least 3 times in last 6 months according to log book dono how I feel about this maybe wrong car or something wrong with her hence fresh mot before I hand over any cash. But engine sounds good no rust couple of car park dings everything but rear wiper and fuel flap solenoid works, wiper missing & flap solenoid hopefully is an easy swap from a breaker next week.

Cambelt is prob due and I will be thinking about it once I can get some money gathered together 2 new cars in the space of 2 weeks 1 going to the scrap heap so kinda skint right now. Might look into if this is a diy job or garage. She will get a service that aint too bad to on the wallet.

Did read they can run on a mix of veg so at least can use up my stock pile from the death trak

If it has a high pressure common rail fuel system running it on veg oil will seriously damage it.

this is the thing it is common rail but I have read they do run on a 50:50 mix but I wouldnt have thought so being common rail I am not fully convinced and will be doing a bot more research before it goes in

The problem is that common rail fuel systems run on a VERY high pressure, in excess of 1500 bar. This is done to enable full atomisation of the fuel once it is injected. Tolerances of moving parts within the system are as tight as 1 - 5 um. Because of this fine particle filters are used within the system as the slightest bit of contamination could do major damage. The fuel has to be supplied to the system at the correct viscosity so in a lot of cases fuel line heaters are used and the fuel temperature is even monitored at the fuel tank. Veg oil will not be of the correct viscosity and may well have particle contamination that will block the systems filters, particularly those that are internal to the injectors. If the system does become contaminated the only correct option is complete replacement which would probably cost 2k+ (cheap compared to a Mercedes, the HP pump costs 5k by itself!!)

You will probably also find that as the system is not really compatible with veg oil (even 50:50 mix) and the fuel won't atomise correctly the emissions will be up, the power will be down, the economy will be down and if it has a DPF it will soon become clogged and need replacement.

Is it a risk worth taking? I wouldn't bother myself as the savings running on veg oil are not huge and the potential cost in damage to the engine is!!.

I hear what your saying I have onlyhad a quick skim of what some other people have said but at the end of the day I cant afford another car right now if this one exploded due to bad fuel so might just end up on bio then as that should be safer than veg??? At 0.95 a ltr unknown quality or 1.20 used on the c5 hdi fine its a decent enough saving if it works dune to the mileage I do 20k last year

What you have to be careful of with bio diesel is its effect on some seal materials. Hydrocarbon rubbers such as nitrile can be particularly effected. If anything looks like its starting to leak or beginning to degrade you should stop using it

my thinking would be if it leaks upgrade it I have heard of veg eating o rings and things so you replace with another material viton or something would think the same on bio

If you start using biodiesel, there is another slight consideration...

Not only is it a cleaner fuel, in terms of carbon footprint and the like. It's also a CLEANING fuel, it will strip all the years of crud that has accumulated in the fuel tank and pipes and dislodge it....which is actually a good thing but it's worth changing the fuel filter once a month for 3 months or so after first bio usage.

Just a heads up.

Just a heads up.

When using it in the c5 I had a clear pre filter to keep an eye on the cleaning properties of bio and to save the main filter

Im gona stay away from veg and run on bio instead

Picked her up today take a bit of getting used to after the death-trak in that you are not worried about it falling to bits every second you drive but once I get some confidence back I'm sure it will be a great motor.

Just need to source a couple of parts for her new rear wiper arm and bolt as its missing and fix the fuel flap solenoid both should be sorted with a trip to a breakers then its give her a service this month and hopefully enjoy driving a safe and reliable car
