Does anyone else think that gumtree is generally better for bangers. I like looki on eBay but it seems most cars under 1k are all spares and repairs now. Thoughts?

Gumtree is fantastic for cheap cars if you are willing to track through and look seek things out. Definitely a lot cheaper than eBay in more recent years as people seem to think cars command a massive premium on there!!

Totally agree that prices on gumtree are more realistic than often seen on eBay, and therefore often a better banger hunting ground.....

ebay is full of people taking the piss bids, how many adds do you see going up 2 and 3 times due to non payment or no contact listed as the reason sometimes i feel it more a case of you bid it up yourself now and no one out bid you whoops relist. While gumtree you are more likely to see what they want for the car and make an offer

Well Gumtree is part of eBay so I'm sure you will get mostly the same people on either but which one is better? The one you get a bargain on. Good post

eBay is good if you happen upon somebody who works in the true spirit of what it was developed for and honour the final bid.

Personally I don't put my cars on auctions there, as its full of people who want for nothing (yes we all want a bargain but there is a bargain whilst being realistic with the price and then people taking the piss) and I don't agree with bumping my own bids up, so I tend to put things on a Buy it Now with Best Offer. I sold my V70 on there, advertised 1475, it owed me 1100. I accepted 1300 from a genuine offer who provided a mobile number, had a lengthy chat on the phone, deposited 100 into my PayPal straight after on the condition I'd return it if he felt the car wasn't as described.

With eBay though it is this type of system that falters as you can buy a car then bugger off into the distance and never pay up. At least with Gumtree (from a seller perspective) people have to turn up and look at it.

I think Gumtree's downfall is that they are localized whereas eBay you can access vehicles for sale all over the UK.

I would say take it back a few years evilbay
but now, I have so much crap with said Bay, I dunno
Last car I sold fine, the car before,

went for 950, I had a posse of indian guys in two cars
turn up and decided to rip me, I held my ground to the point of one of them saying
I was a racist, Shocked
i felt harassed, and by bugger Im 6 ft and 17 1/2 stone
I told him 'you won her you buy her'
'If you dont want her just go home'

Nuff said, I was getting properly angry now

He wouldnt let it go, and his posse was getting all quite ugly
I called my brother, and he came round to provide a bit of back up
(He being a Para)
They eventually left, but left me a awful feedback on my account

My brother in law was a prestige car salesman and he told me stories of pakistani/indian buyers which would raise your eyebrows. When I was selling my A3 an asian guy called from brum called and I told point blank dont come near if you are thinking of knocking the price down. I was selling really cheap to move it. Anyway he arrived with 3 other mates and I thought here we go but you know he was a cracking bloke and his mates were pretty decent too. I was slightly ashamed for prejudging to be honest.

Hi Guys, I no longer use fleabay to sell cars, there are far to many timewasters and gerneral ner do wells on there for my liking.
A friend had a bloke and his mate come over to see his car, decided they did not like it and tried to get him to pay for their petrol for their 'wasted' trip. Fortunatly he called a mate and told them in no uncertain terms to b*gger off, to many people like that on there thesedays.
Funny though only seems to be cars that you get problems with, we sell all sorts of other stuff on there and the people taht buy are generally very pleasant to deal with.
