To keep in line with the rules of this forum, this thread is not for members to promote their own auctions

But I thought it would be a good idea for people to post up links to pocket money bangers that members may be interested in buying? You know the type, sub 1k with MOT (and tax if applicable given new regulations) that are ideal for our way of thinking with easy maintenance and disposable.

This can be eBay but also looking at alternatives such as AutoTrader and Gumtree.

This is quite local to me, appears to be traders ad but I reckon that as the auction is coming to an end there might be some negotiating on the price. If I was looking for a cheap, sub 500 runabout then I'd be considering this:

If the 1.0 12v 3cyl engine isn't your type then this Corsa 1.4 might be a worthy alternative. Private ad so more scope for negotiation here, would probably get it cheaper than the above and its a 5 door so practical for the small, budget conscious family:

My money would probably be going towards this however, steal at 350 with japanese reliability:

All found within a 5 minute search of my local area, I'm sure there are plenty more out there (and probably some which are better bargains too) what can you guys find?

Total shame that these weren't on there about 3 weeks ago when I was looking for a cheap runabout (before I bought my E30) as that Civic particularly would have been of interest! There was nothing at all local when I was looking Crying or Very sad

Had a quick look further afield to see what is about:

Skoda Felicia 1.9 Diesel - guy I used to work with had one of these for years and said that it was a fantastic motor to run about in and very cost effective. This one has Tax & MOT for 450 advertised price, room for negotiation:

There is little love for the old Ford Escort these days. This is a classified ad one with decent MOT & Tax, but if you search eBay there are loads of them on auction with a couple of days left to go and the prices are sitting at the 200-300 mark. If you can't wait though then just ring these guys up for a look:

MOT is a little on the short side for this next one, but a good check over to see if its okay and knock a few quid off, could be worth it for somebody?

Looking a bit further towards the top end of the budget now, but if you like luxobarges like me you might like the look of this. Always wanted a Jag:

If you need a load lugger then this could be a consideration:

I do fantasy car buyer on Autotrader sometimes, normally when bored or waiting for "Deadenders" to finish on BBC1

Put in your price range ay 500 to 1000 quid, manual trans, Petrol, mileage to 60,000 and hatchback.
Any colour any engine size etc and as near to or as far from home as poss and see what pops up!

There is usually a surprise!

If you don't specify a minimum price it will also pick up everything in the sub 500 quid bracket:

I think these are fantastic little runabouts, would definitely consider one of these if I was looking for a small engined, small runabout:

Economy runabout and able to run on veg:

Larger car for those who need the extra space:

I must admit that MK3 Fiesta looks a cracking buy. I haven't seen a MK3 Fiesta for years let alone one in clean condition.

What's the views on a rover 200? This looks good if you could knock it down a bit. Low mileage and looks tidy. Bit boring I suppose but cheap driving?

If you can buy any decent car for under 500 you've had a buy, but if you can buy a Honda and some Mazda's you'll be guaranteeing reliability for years to come with no cambelt/timing chain related costs, as they have a non interference engine which basically means when a cambelt snaps you can just replace the belt as no other engine damage occurs, which for other cars is normally terminal.

How does that work?

Surely if the belt snaps the valves have a brawl with the pistons?

What era of Hondas/Mazdas are we talking about?

Not if there is sufficient clearance.

Land Rover TDI's 200 and 300's although not strictly non-interference use a short pushrod from the cam and this bends first usually saving much more expensive things.
