Especially since you just know that, in a recent Top Gear edition, the only reason they'd be looking at these cars is because they were going to chuck at least one of them off a cliff.

But that's entertainment (yawn).

Cannot agree more the current format is stale and a bit of a joke.

I watched Fifth Gear last night that is a far better motoring program and is for benefit of the viewers rather that just for inflating the egos of the trio on the other for mentioned excuse for a motoring program on the other side Sleep

The new Top Gear has gone to Fantasy - comedic levels

As an example of what pisses me off about the program relative to a bangernomics outlook, take that tidy one-owner Volvo 340 first up on the video.

IIRC the 340 featured on Jeremy Clarkson's very, very long list of "absolutely the worst car ever ever made, bar none" (Jeremy doesn't really understand how superlatives are supposed to work), but to be fair, he didn't chuck it off a cliff.

With stunning originality he drove it into a tree. That's entertainment too, apparently. (Yawn).

To be even more fair, sometimes the wilful destruction, though it still hurts, is justified by the entertainment value. I'm thinking especially of the "indestructible" Toyota Hilux feature.

I still watch the program, but those moments are getting rather rare, and a lot of it is just too bloody silly for me these days. Possibly I too have become a grumpy old bugger.

I must I dont think I have missed an episode since I can remember and yes star in a car bores me a little but I still love its entertainment value.

I think I have to take some of my above curmudgeonly criticism back. I've been seeing it more often round at my Taiwanese girlfriends place, and it makes her giggle.

I can forgive it a lot for that, especially if it makes her more tolerant of my comical foreign bangernomical obsession.
