PostSubject: Hi from the not quite frozen north   Sat Jan 01, 2011 1:53 pm

Hi all,

Thought I'd say hello and introduce myself.

My name is Simon and I'm a Handyman in north Aberdeenshire.

Currently I drive a 89 Volvo 740 Turbo Estate which I bought last summer with full test for 400 and costs 160 a year on Footman James classic insurance. Flipping tax costs more! So far (other than service) all I've spent is on a few cosmetics like new door pockets and indicator lenses. Also changed the head unit for a period Alpine one for a massive 15.

Welcome aboard, You can't go wrong with a Volvo, especially 740s, great value and a lot of car for the money. Not much in the way of rust either. THat's my idea of Bangernomics. Brilliant.

Hi Simon

Looks like a perfect Handyman's tool that Volvo!, i love old school Volvos, i only wish i could afford to run one! great Alpine tape deck, you got a fair deal on that too if the tape part works, perfect for mp3!

Hi

Running's not too bad. I average 30mpg, not bad for a 175k 21yo 2.3 Turbo. Head Unit is fully working. Use an FM Modulator for iPod at the moment but will be running an Alpine controller when I can afford it. It's very quick and very comfy. Much more so than later ones. Also built like a good old W123 Merc which probably helps account for the condition. Of course you can also fit a small east european country in the back.

Cheers
