Hello everyone, I just wondered what you thought Bangernomics actually meant. Originally I reckoned it was buying cheap and then running into the ground, although now I think it is about value. Used car prices are so low that you can buy much more car for themoney. What do you think?

I notice from the forums that Rover's get a good rep and wondered what your thoughts are on the Rover 75 and whether they are a good second hand option?
You will be pleased to hear that the Rover Sterling completed 1500 miles to John O Groats and back without missing a beat. It was sensationally comfortable. However it is due to be auctioned next week at BCA for the BEN motor trade charity. I do feel that it will never reach what it is really worth amongst the cynical members of her majesty's car trade. So I don't want to sell it there and would rather it go to a 800 lover.

As you may know, I'm a fan of the Wedge, so when this one came up after being found, left in a barn since 1995, I decided if I don't save it, no one will.

Engine was seized, clutch was seized, I was seized after pushing it with those flat tyres! Anyway, it's running now...

Well, someone's gotta save our heritage, whether people liked them or not.

It does need a bit of welding, though.

Firstly, happy new year to you all.

I have been a student of bangernomics for a little while now, having discivered Alfa 155's a little while back (they're not as unreliable as people think if you keep an eye on them). I got a tidy 2.5 V6 for £600, and it turned out to be a good 'un).

We have a Nissan Almera Tino as our main family car, and I am between cars at the moment (damn credit crunch) - looking at Audi Coupe's as a possibility for the next 'banger'.

Hi There!

(Newbie alert!) I'm glad that at long last there is a forum for Bangers!, i had the book version of Bangernomics years ago before i could drive and after doing a bit of Googling, Mr. Ruppert now has this excellent website!

However, i have a question/conundrum which i'm wondering if anyone could help me with?:

Ive seen them do them for £10 and occasionally for free!

You know I love my Rover's and I'm always happy to take one on.

It may be getting on a bit, but low mileage and great condition makes this an absolute steal. And if you keep it in this condition it'll hold its value. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

Is it just me or has everything gone crazy?

First big gas guzzlers dropped dramatically because of the rediculous tax hikes on 2001+ cars...

Then the credit crunch meant nobody was interested in cars anymore, further dropping car prices...

And now it's Christmas and everyone's spending money on presents...

So AWFUL time to sell a car?

But GREAT time to buy a car because they're so cheap!

Further to this they decided against the tax increases, so you can now buy big petrol ...

UK Banger Rallies?

I know there's numerous european rallies where people drive in one direction as far as they can manage in 4 days and then think... bugger I've got to try and get home now... and then there's some where they drive round in a big circle so they hopefully end up back at the start again...

Anyway, I was wondering if there's anything similar, but in the UK, taking in some of the great roads in Wales and Scotland?

I thought Mr J R may know as he's the father of bangernomics, and in the ...

I took the wife's M-Reg Micra for it's MOT, in a bit of a rush, as we hadn't realised it was due. Got a quote for £300+VAT to sort the welding etc.

The MOT tester even failed his own repair from last year as "the rules have changed". Oh, and "brake pipes inadequately clipped". Balls.

Each point he found had at least 2 entries on the failure sheet, including bulbs..

Anyway, we tried to flog ...
